Guildhall

Before I tell you the details of that day, I'll start with this. I did not like Guildhall at all. It's not just about what they want, it's about what you want. And I did not want Guildhall.

We were taken in to a small boardroom where we spent the majority of our day. As there was 12 of us and three graduates, you have plenty of time to ask them all the questions you'd like. For the warm-up workshop, we were taken into a small studio and were told to remind ourselves that we would not be marked for our work in the warm up.

The two examiners took turns doing different exercises which lasted around half an hour. Everything so far, was going brilliantly. We went back to the room and I waited 2 hours at least as I was number 12. When finally, one of the graduates took me back to the studio for my audition - I was getting the usual butterflies.

I sat down in front of them and immediately my stomach lurched. As with RADA I felt welcomed and refreshed, here I could feel the walls closing down on me. My gut was literally screaming GET OUT from the moment I stepped in. Very bad vibes.

I performed my speeches, and my modern - which is a comedy with a stereotyped character was stopped and I was asked to perform like me. As an actor, I like to believe that each character is different and taking away the characterisation takes away the life and humour. But nevertheless, the speeches went very well. They asked a few questions, then told me that it's sometimes best to go travelling and get some life experience. You will hear this a lot.

After everyone auditioned, they came into the boardroom and announced that only one person was getting a recall. And do you know what? It was the one person that everyone thought was going to be terrible. He was immature, childlike, a chatterbox, sometimes inappropriate and still was chosen.

Everything happens for a reason. I was brought to Guildhall so I could learn my first lesson of auditioning:

You have no idea what they want.
