There was around 80 other people auditioning and we were split into three groups. There are three sections of the day; the workshop, the speeches and the Q&A. The workshop and the speeches are with different examiners. I did mine in that order, but the groups rotate.
I enjoyed the workshop SO much. It's split in to two - movement and improvisation. The movement class hurt a lot, you do loads of exercises and activities that use muscles you don't usually. Because of this, I ached for 2 days afterwards. If you want to make a good impression for the movement class then loose your inhibition.
We had to interpret the words he said into different movements and sounds - you cannot prepare for this. Here are a few examples: Yellow, tiny, a jealous egg, an angry radiator, revolution, a tornado, a romantic leaf.
Looking at those, think about what you would have done and then think of something else. Pretty much everyone in that room sat on the floor in an egg shape and threw a few jealous looks. Feel what people are doing around you. If everyone is on the floor, do something standing up. If everyone is running around, sit on the floor. Make noises - very few people did. But be able to justify your interpretations. Don't just do it because it looks good.
My only advise for the improvisation is don't say "I don't know". Have an answer for everything. Think of things that have actually happened in your own life so that it won't be hard to elaborate.
The speeches are performed in front of 10 other hopefuls. Mine went very well and then the Q&A was a group discussion about finance and the DaDa award. After you've finished everything, you're taken down to a very large studio with the other 80 people and you wait a little while so that the judges can tally up your points. They come in and read out the numbers they want for recalls. Under 10 people were chosen and I wasn't one of them.
It was gutting because I had really enjoyed the day. But I guess, it wasn't my path.
